Medical information matters
Practicing medicine consists largely of capturing, collecting and interpreting heterogeneous pieces of information related to an individual, the patient.
The resulting information must be reliable, validated, protected - both during storage and transfers - and it must be quickly and permanently available to the designated care provider.
Hospital information systems, and more generally health information systems, must adapt themselves to the constraints encountered by physicians and nurses.
The overall value of an HIS can be assessed by the degree to which it is adopted and utilized by care providers.
